I am a first-year PhD student in the joint programme between the University of Pavia and the University of Milan, specialising in health economics. My research is supported by a scholarship from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) on statistical–econometric methods for the analysis of population health and registry data; from my second year, I will carry out research directly in cooperation with the ISS. I use causal inference methods, in particular the synthetic control method, to study health policy and regional healthcare systems.

    Fiscal Discipline, Uneven Regional Consequences: Evidence from the Italian National Health Service

    We use a synthetic control approach to study how Italy’s regional recovery plans for public healthcare, introduced between 2007 and 2010, affected staffing levels and patient out-migration, finding markedly uneven effects across regions.
